Words from our Supporters
Thanks for your work to protect nature preserves in Victoria. I hike in the Highlands, Mt. Work & walk around Thetis Lake. Instead of worrying about global issues that none of us can do anything about, it is better to focus on local things that we actually can do something about. Thanks for your work organizing the purchase of the lake, and updating on the website.

Mary Lake Nature Sanctuary is an important and timely initiative deserving the support of Capital Region residents and visitors to Victoria alike that will benefit from this outdoor experience for generations to come. The purchase of the trail through Mary Lake will offer an outstanding 25 km hiking experience from Thetis Lake through to the Gowlland Tod Park all within a 30 minute travel time from Victoria. Congratulations and thank you to the Greater Victoria Greenbelt Society for providing the necessary leadership on this visionary project.

I’m solidly an outdoors person and living just 2 kms away, I spend a lot of time hiking and kayaking when not at my career in the military. Recently moved to the highlands from Atlantic Canada, I’m a very interested in seeing this project get off the ground and becoming reality. Thanks for sending the brochure (Highland News) in our mailbox this afternoon.

Put our property taxes to good use and get Mary Lake!

Acquisition of Mary Lake as a park would be a visionary act, keeping environmental protection and public access to wild land in a climate of development that will not relent any time soon. Let’s do it for the next generation (and then enjoy it ourselves!)
– J Nelson
This sounds like a fantastic venture that should for sure happen!

I wish Mary Lake to be protected for the enjoyment of everyone. “Anyone who keeps the ability to see Beauty in Nature never grows old”. We must protect the watershed and all of the wonderful trees that provide us with oxygen. It seems that so many of our gorgeous forests are disappearing on this Island and everywhere. Also the wildlife need this beautiful area to be saved for them.

You have done it! And in the process you have served as a modern and local example of a favourite quote… “Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative or creation, there is one elementary truth…that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would otherwise never have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in ones’s favor all manner of incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man would have believed would have come his way. Whatever you think you can do or believe you can do, begin it. Action has magic, grace, and power in it.” W H Murray From The Scottish Himalayan Expedition 1951 Thank you GVGS and Bob
